Coming to Technocon - Things You Should KnowBadges Conference badges (name tags) were required to attend all conference events, snacks and meals.
Check-in and Information Desk The Check-in and Information desk were located in the atrium between the School of Business and the Tory Building. We hope that you checked in and picked up your badge before proceeding to the dining tent or the keynote lecture hall. The Information desk was open during meals, breaks and lunches on both days.
Conference Etiquette The University provides a smoke-free learning and working environment. Smoking is permitted on the University grounds but you must be outside and well away from the entrances to buildings and the dining tent. We also ask your cooperation in refraining from wearing scented products in consideration of those who may have allergies. Technocon has a very full schedule so please help us keep the conference on schedule but being on time to the keynote sessions and presentations you attend. All cellular telephones and pagers should be turned off or on vibrate during sessions. If you must take a call, please leave the room to avoid distracting others.
Birds of a Feather Lunches One of the main objectives of Technocon is to build and strengthen working relationships between the University and the City's IT staff. For attendees, that means meeting others who work in a similar field, making a connection, exchanging contact information and growing your professional network. The Birds of a Feather lunches were designed to create the opportunity for you to meet others who work in your field. The rest will be up to you.
"Express Station" Computer Access There are public computers located on the 2nd floor of the School of Business. The username and password were provided on the day of the conference.
Locations Keynote sessions were in the Tory Turtle Lecture Theatre Complex adjacent to the School of Business. Concurrent presentations were in the classrooms in the School of Business. We utilized the basement, first, second, third and fourth floors. Room numbers indicate the room floor (e.g., B-09 indicates the basement). Meals and snacks were in the dining tent adjacent to the School of Business. Sponsor exhibits were in the 4th floor lounge of the School of Business and in the atrium between the School of Business and the Tory Building. We hope you took a few minutes during the afternoon breaks to check out the exhibits and to thank our sponsors for making Technocon possible. There were signs leading from the LRT to the School of Business and within the School of Business and the Tory Building to help you find your way.
Personal Belongings The School of Business does not have a secure facility for storing coats, umbrellas or other personal belongings. For that reason, please bring with you only those items that you will need and can keep with you throughout the conference.
Technocon is Eco-Friendly! Both the University of Alberta and the City of Edmonton are committed to environmental preservation and sustainability; therefore, Technocon is reducing the amount of wasted paper generated by offering access to presentation materials before, during and after the conference. Paper copies of slides were not provided at Technocon.
Wi-Fi Access Access to the UofA's Wi-Fi (UWS) was provided free of charge to conference participants. Instructions for connecting to UWS are available here http://helpdesk.ualberta.ca/UWS/uws/ or by connecting to the "HowToConnectToWireless" network while on campus and trying to access any website.
